If you have a Hunter "Original" fan, this is the remote control that you're stuck with. The "FAN OFF" button isn't exactly the same shape as on the wall-switch-mounted unit, which has caused my wife some confusion, but we can live with that. Otherwise , the two units are compatible, provided that they have been programmed to the same 4-bit "code". Since the fan doesn't change speed very quickly, I kind of like the "click" that the relays in the receiver make when changing fan speeds. It confirms that my command has been accepted. The green LED that lights up when you press a button on the remote is nice too, as it lets you know that the batteries haven't gone dead. Painting the receiver that mounts on the ceiling can be a pain, though. I thought that this unit would be concealed under the "canopy" which covers the ceiling mount, but it isn't. It becomes part of what you see against the ceiling. Using a spraypaint designed for plastics helps. It's a competent unit, and the fan doesn't "hum" on any of the three speeds, so we're basically happy. I just wish that the light control would allow starting at OFF and slowly bringing the lights up. As it is, you press the light button once to turn the light full-on, and then press and hold it to dim it to the desired level. If you go too far, you have to turn the light OFF, then ON, and then start the dimming process all over again.
